The next stage of evolution, or: the art of omission.
There's a good reason why the new Smithi Pro has the suffix UL for Ultralight. We finally found a suitable material that is light, airtight, and sturdy, yet weighs so little that we were able to reduce the total weight of the kite once again—to an amazing 216g! (For comparison: a Wasabi 2.0 of approximately the same size weighs well over 300g). In addition, we have omitted everything superfluous from the Smithi UL. And finally, we even removed the screen in front of the one-way valves (which can still be seen in the pictures of the prototype).
What's the result? No Smithi has ever flown so lightly, so directly and effortlessly in such light winds. The lighter the wind, the more fun it is. The feedback is clear, the flight varies from dynamic to dance-like. For that perfect day.
Even after more than thirteen years, the Smithi ist still one of a kind: it can be stopped suddenly, steered in any directions, even backwards (!), doing super-tight spins without losing altitude, and with a little practice, it can even fly sideways! ... This is made possible by a sophisticated balance system and one-way valves, which prevent sudden air escape.
Despite its easy handling, pilots should have some experience: the bridle can (and should) be adjusted to different wind speeds and preferences by using the knot ladder. Smithican be flown in winds stronger than 3 Bft, but there are better options for that. Keep it gentle!
And o course, the Smithi Pro UL has profile support. The craftsmanship is the finest money can buy (sewn, raw Dyneema!). And – finally – the Pro comes in a suitably stylish bag!
